About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This provider will help cover PRN in General Cardiology. Hours are typically 7a-5p. The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced nursing care to patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. This includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care in collaboration with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team. The NP promotes patient education and disease prevention.

Requirements

• Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from an accredited nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice.
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
• State Controlled Substance License (if required by State)
• National board certification as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) or ACNPC-AG), Acute Care Adult (ACNP-BC).
• Additional certifications require approval from a market executive leader: Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP) certification
• Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form.
• Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists

Nice To Haves

• If Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in cardiology or acute care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive cardiovascular assessments including histories, physical exams, and interpretation of diagnostic tests (e.g., EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests).
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with cardiologists.
• Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state licensure and hospital policy.
• Manage patients with heart failure, arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and other cardiovascular conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
• Provide patient education regarding disease processes, medications, lifestyle modifications, and risk factor reduction.
• Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals and services.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
• This position also provides on-call coverage outside of regularly scheduled hours.
