About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner, OBGYN will function independently within a broad scope of established policies and goals, under the general administrative direction of the Medical Director and the direction of the supervising physician for patient care issues. This role involves providing comprehensive gynecological and obstetrical care, including annual examinations, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic gynecological problems, and care for obstetrical patients. The position also includes clinical training, patient education, health counseling, and participation in departmental policy development. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a patient advocate, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to quality assurance and process improvement initiatives. This role requires a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or higher
  • Currently licensed as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within)
  • US Department of Justice and Massachusetts’ Controlled Substance DEA Registrations are required for prescribing practitioners

Responsibilities

  • Provide annual gynecological examinations, routine and follow up care, and diagnose and treat acute and chronic gynecological problems.
  • Provide care and treatment to obstetrical patients.
  • Provide and assist with clinical training in the onboarding of any Nurse Practitioners or Certified Nurse Midwives.
  • Communicate with OB/GYN office personnel, patients, families, and other hospital departments to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Initiate and assist in coordinating consultations with other providers and community agencies.
  • Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of information.
  • Serve as a patient advocate to provide a safe and secure environment.
  • Initiate and participate in the identification of important aspects of patient care and indicators for monitoring quality of care.
  • Provide patient teaching and health counseling.
  • Participate as a resource person within the OB/GYN office.
  • Participate in the development of departmental policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Perform basic nursing responsibilities including telephone triage, quality assurance tracking, and monitoring of laboratory and diagnostic testing reports upon request.
  • Communicate with family members and health professionals regarding patient care.
  • Serve as patient advocate within guidelines found in the Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Assume responsibility for own personal continuing education and development needs; attend meetings, workshops, and conventions.
  • Perform all responsibilities/duties required by the position, department, and hospital as described in the scope of service.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Challenge current working practices, identify process improvement opportunities, and present recommendations and solutions to management.
