About The Position

The Fort Yates Hospital, located near the Missouri River on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation at Fort Yates, North Dakota is a fully accredited 12-bed hospital staffed by Physicians and Nurse Practitioners. The hospital provides comprehensive primary care based on the Primary Care Medical Home model. The Emergency Department offers 24/7 care and is designated as a Level IV trauma center. Additional services include inpatient care, dental services, behavior health, optometry, nutritional counseling, and telehealth. The McLaughlin Health Center provides comprehensive primary care based on the Primary Care Medical Home model. Additional services include an outpatient clinic, dental services, behavioral health, nutritional counseling, and telehealth.

Requirements

• Master's or doctoral degree in nursing.
• Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
• Hold and maintain BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association or client guidelines.
• Certified in the specialty as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), or the recognized national nursing certification organization for the specialty area of practice of psychiatry as appropriate.
• At least 5 years' experience working in a mental health clinic.
• Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Board Certification.
• Maintain an active, valid, current, and unrestricted license (with no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions) to practice nursing as a Nurse Practitioner from any state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and provide comprehensive and therapeutic psychiatric care to patients and their families.
• Provide specialized psychiatric services including clinical assessments and diagnosis to individuals with mental illness and prescribing medications and treatments.
• Take a complete health and psychiatric history from the patient and/or family member.
• Review medical history as recorded in patient's chart and consult with primary care physician as needed.
• Order and interpret findings of relevant laboratory and diagnostic tests.
• Interpret test results and analyze all collected data, discriminate between normal and abnormal findings to identify all stages of serious physical, emotional or mental problems, and prioritize health care needs.
• Perform mental status examinations, recognize the major categories of psychiatric disorders, provide diagnosis, determine the appropriate level of care, and document these findings clearly in the electronic health record daily using SOAP format, and in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, and consistent with professional standards of practice.
• Formulate and implement a plan of care which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribing medications, consultation with other health care providers, and referrals.
• Identify and manage both acute and chronic mental health and substance use disorders by established standards of medical care and approved clinical privileges.
