The Department of Surgery faculty have expertise in multiple complex diseases and are integrated into subspecialties including cancer, gastrointestinal disease, vascular diseases, cardiovascular diseases, hepatobiliary disease, trauma, and surgical critical care. This position is for a Nurse Practitioner I in the Department of Surgery, focusing on the management and coordination of inpatient care for various divisions, including the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service. The role involves assessing health needs, planning and evaluating patient care, participating in inpatient sign-outs, following up with surgical teams, and being involved in trauma resuscitations and surgical consultations. Responsibilities also include organizing procedures, obtaining consults, discharging patients, triaging phone calls, reviewing critical labs, obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, and managing the treatment of hospitalized patients. The Nurse Practitioner will demonstrate advanced medical knowledge, clinical competence, sound judgment, professional communication, and timely documentation, while also being responsible for professional development and competency validation. Under the supervision of the Chief of Trauma, Burns, and Critical Care Services, the NP will participate in comprehensive patient care, providing multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication.
