This position is on the 8S Trauma Stepdown unit, a 17-bed unit with a typical nurse to patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4. The Registered Nurse will care for adult patients with traumatic injuries involving multiple body systems, including trauma rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury, and accidental trauma injuries. This is a fast-paced, dynamic, and unpredictable unit where you will learn something new every day. Vanderbilt Health is the only nationally verified Level 1 trauma center in Middle Tennessee, covering 80,000 square miles. It is a Magnet-designated organization and ranked as the #1 hospital in Nashville and Tennessee (U.S. News and World Report 2024-2025).

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of RN experience
  • Nursing degree
  • State or Compact License (TN license within 60 days of getting TN address even if compact license)

Responsibilities

  • Applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning.
  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
  • Collaborates in establishing patient goals and evaluates progress to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to the Board of Nursing standards.
  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
