About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner practices in collaboration with the Hospitalist team of physicians and advanced practice providers to care for hospitalized patients in the inpatient setting. The position reports to the Medical Director. The Nurse Practitioner evaluates patients, diagnoses illnesses, orders and performs diagnostic tests, plans and initiates treatment, prescribes medications, maintains medical records, educates patients and families, coordinates consultations and referrals, and stays current with medical research and trends while supporting research projects.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
• Nurse Practitioner license required.
• CPR certification required.
• National certification required.
• At least 3 years of experience in a previous acute care clinical nursing role required.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical examinations to evaluate patients’ health and diagnose illnesses.
• Order and perform diagnostic tests, such as X-rays and laboratory tests.
• Determine, plan, and initiate appropriate treatment, adjusting treatment when necessary.
• Prescribe and dispense medications.
• Document patient medical information and maintain electronic medical records.
• Educate, instruct, and counsel patients and families about health problems, treatment plans, and home care; promote preventive care and positive health behaviors.
• Request consultation or referral with other health care providers, including physicians and clinics.
• Maintain knowledge of current medical research and trends, and support research projects.
