The Institute unites 16 centers and programs to diagnose and treat the full spectrum of heart and vascular conditions for all patients, from infants to those with advanced disease. Our faculty and attending physicians provide deep competency across all specialties, including electrophysiology and arrhythmia management, structural heart disorders, transplantation, stem cell therapy, congenital heart disease, women's heart health, advanced heart disease, and hypertension. Advanced Heart Rhythm Care in LA: If your heart rhythm doesn’t feel normal, cardiac electrophysiology helps diagnose and treat the condition, also called an arrhythmia. At the Smidt Heart Institute, our heart rhythm specialists provide comprehensive cardiac electrophysiology care, including catheter ablation and cardiac device therapy, using a personalized, leading‑edge approach. Under the supervision of a Cardiac Electrophysiologist and within the Nurse Practitioner's competence, the Nurse Practitioner provides specialized services to clinical electrophysiology patients. This includes managing and treating cardiac rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and other complex arrhythmias. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the planning and coordination of all aspects of the workup and care of patients referred to the electrophysiology service.
