A Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a competent clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. A CNII independently prioritizes and delivers dependable and effective patient care in a variety of patient situations by applying nursing process and appropriate decision-making skills. A CNII exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The Clinical Nurse II begins to develop their mentorship abilities under the leadership of experienced and expert clinicians on their unit. Drives the mentee-mentor relationship to identify gaps in skills, practice and knowledge to achieve desired goals.

Requirements

  • Competent clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner.

Responsibilities

  • Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
  • Provides patient care, family teaching and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures
  • Provides direct and indirect care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care
  • Administers immunizations, IM/subcutaneous injections, IV, and/or oral medications
  • Utilizes the nursing process to perform, coordinate and supervise patient assessments and provide nursing interventions
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and performance in the coordination, implementation and documentation of patient care consistently performs according to the standards of the profession
  • Plans and implements individualized patient care based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated
  • Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Identifies patient’s readiness for learning and ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent
  • Triages patient phone calls by assessing symptoms and addressing patient concerns, while seeking advice from providers.
  • Performs phlebotomy and prepares designated lab work and/or specimens.
  • Carries out providers’ orders in a safe manner
  • Performs vital signs, reconciliation of medications and assessment of chief complaints in the patient’s medical records
  • Perform designated diagnostic tests and procedures (i.e. stress test, dobutamine stress test, cardiopulmonary exercise test, bubble/contrast studies, etc.)
  • Assists and coordinates with front office staff with follow-up scheduling needs
