About The Position

The Nurse Manager assists the DON/CNO with directing, planning, coordinating, monitoring, and supervising the effective and efficient operations of nursing in the delivery of behavioral health care to all clients. Responsible for the clinical management of the milieu, coordination of client care and staffing according to predetermined guidelines, monitoring and functioning within budget, supervision of staff, and maintenance of regulatory standards in a manner that ensures the deliverance of quality care in a safe and cost-effective manner. This position is onsite at the facility and is not a remote position.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing required.
  • Three or more years’ experience as a RN required.
  • Two or more years’ experience in behavioral health required.
  • Experience working with behavioral treatment services for children, adolescents, adults, chemically dependent and/or dually diagnosed clients.
  • Experience with medication teaching, management of the therapeutic milieu and providing mandatory and voluntary in-service training.
  • One or more years’ leadership or management experience required.
  • Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable.
  • CPR certification and de-escalation training required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Certified in Psychiatric Nursing preferred.
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment teams, other departments, and administration to ensure that all clients’ physical, biopsychosocial, age, developmental and cultural needs are met and when they are not met, acknowledges and works to resolve the issue.
  • Monitors nursing practices and activities to assure quality client care.
  • Communicates expectations of client care to staff.
  • Manages the activities of staff, coordinating safe and appropriate care between departments and disciplines.
  • Identifies and prioritizes issues of importance, including those priority issues as set for by leadership.
  • Collaborates with department leaders and corporate leaders, as needed.
  • Communicates instructions, expectations and timelines clearly and concisely.
  • Monitors time schedules to determine adequate staff and skill levels.
  • Assures presence of adequate staff on all shifts according to staffing guidelines.
  • Maintains productivity levels that are aligned with client census, curtailing unnecessary overtime and/or excessive staff work hours.
  • Manages staff scheduling and maintains an updated plan for contingency staffing.
  • Maintains accountability expectations for self and staff in all areas of job performance.
  • Engages staff in quality and safety basics to ensure sustained, measurable compliance.
  • Identifies staff educational needs and ensures they are addressed with education programs that are attended by staff.
  • Hold staff accountable for non-compliance and client safety concerns, as well as attendance, following policies, behavior, and adherence to code of conduct.
  • Evaluates staff performance, initiates recommendations for hiring, promotion, suspension, and termination of staff.
  • Utilizes the progressive disciplinary process as necessary.
  • Performs administrative or managerial functions such as planning and monitoring budgets and authorizing expenditures within budgetary guidelines.
  • Monitors Performance Improvement initiatives and reports information to the Nursing Executive and Director of Quality and Risk Management.
  • Anticipates and effectively manages changes in census and acuity and allocates nursing resources based on measurement of client acuity/care needed.
  • Provides consultations and expertise in the delivery of care to client.
  • Serves as a clinical and service resource to staff.
  • Models expectations related to customer service and demonstrates a sense of urgency related to the importance of client safety.
  • Identifies the educational needs of staff, develops and conducts educational or training programs.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of department policies and procedures.
  • Addresses employee performance issues at the time noticed and assists with any follow-up as necessary.
  • Facilitates groups, if necessary.
  • Prepares reports to inform management of the status and implementation of programs, services, and quality initiatives of the unit.
  • May work a shift on a specific unit when all other efforts in filling the shift with other staff has been exhausted.
  • Audits and organizes medication room to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, best practices, and reduce the opportunity for medication errors or diversion.
  • May be required to provide onsite coverage for other programs when needed, develops, and executes new programs according to market needs and may provide training, case consultation and Administrator On Call coverage during and after program hours as needed.
  • May perform Leadership Rounds as assigned to include observation and immediate identification of environment of care, safety, and infection control concerns, as well as real time education of new facility processes.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Meets expectations as an exempt employee to work additional hours as required to meet facility needs and project deadlines.
  • Maintains professionalism and confidentiality of facility employees and patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
