About The Position

The Nurse Manager is responsible for implementing the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patient care. This role requires demonstrated ability to plan, organize, implement, lead, direct staff, coordinate, and communicate on a clinical and management level. The Nurse Manager must understand administrative, clinical, and technical systems of healthcare operations, work independently to resolve problems, and maintain high standards of performance. They must be able to manage stressful situations objectively and strategically, maintain professionalism, and analyze clinical trends to determine equipment, educational, and staffing needs within budgetary guidelines. This role involves scheduling personnel, assessing educational needs, providing in-services, and conducting staff meetings. The Nurse Manager is responsible for planning and maintaining an effective quality assurance system, including monitoring and evaluation of patient care, identifying important aspects of care, establishing thresholds for evaluation, collecting and organizing data, and implementing actions to address concerns. They must communicate relevant information to the Physician Advisor and Division Director of Patient Care Services. The Nurse Manager also evaluates and recommends budgeting guidelines, ensures compliance with budgets, and provides productivity/financial status reporting. They must assess and act upon the physical, social, developmental, and environmental needs of patients of all age groups and ensure the continuity of total patient care within the nursing unit. This includes assessing, planning, guiding, and coordinating nursing care, providing documentation of patient condition and response to treatment, and contributing to the organization's mission by providing cost-effective, quality care and supporting financial goals through staff productivity and efficient use of supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • Current Alabama licensure as a Registered Nurse.
  • Relevant, specific education and training and/or experience in implementing the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation).
  • Basic Life Support required.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, implement, lead, direct staff, coordinate, and communicate on a general clinical and management level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of administrative, clinical, and technical systems and phases of Agency management and healthcare operations.
  • Ability to work independently in resolving strategic and tactical problems without impairment or intimidation, always with objectivity and principle.
  • Ability to lead and manage while maintaining a high standard of performance.
  • Ability to deal with emergency, problematic, and stressful situations on an objective and strategic basis without alarmed behavior.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and present a positive outlook at all times.
  • Ability to analyze and study current clinical trends and ascertain appropriate equipment, educational, and staffing needs within parameters of defined budgetary guidelines.

  • Ability to negotiate within hospital structures in limited space.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum weight of 50 pounds.
  • Normal hearing and vision or hearing and vision correctable to normal.
  • Physical and emotional stamina to work rapidly and efficiently and to tolerate stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, sitting, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motions, as well as prolonged periods of walking and standing.
  • Fine motor skills and ability to handle and manipulate supplies and equipment.
  • Ability and knowledge to safely handle occasional exposure to conditions involving cold, heat, or poor ventilation.
  • Ability and knowledge to safely handle occasional exposure to conditions involving blood, skin or lung irritants, and sharp instruments such as needles, scalpels, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all hospital personnel, patients, families, and significant others.
