About The Position

The Nurse Manager is a professional nurse leader with 24-hour accountability for the operational, clinical, quality, financial, and people outcomes of one or more patient care units. Serving as the vital link between organizational strategy and frontline care delivery, the Nurse Manager fosters a culture of safety, compassion, professional practice, innovation, and continuous improvement. The Nurse Manager leads interdisciplinary teams to achieve exceptional patient outcomes, workforce engagement, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance. This role creates and sustains a healthy work environment that promotes staff well-being, evidence-based practice, shared governance, patient-centered care, and equity in healthcare delivery. The Nurse Manager serves as a transformational leader, change agent, mentor, and advocate for patients, families, and caregivers while advancing the mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of the organization.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive clinical nursing experience.
  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Rhode Island.
  • BLS credential required; additional certifications or credentials as appropriate for clinical area.
  • Ability to move throughout patient care and administrative areas.
  • Ability to use computer systems for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond effectively during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility required. While performing the major responsibilities of this position, the incumbent must be able to regularly sit, stand or walk, and occasionally reach for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift, push, move and/or carry supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds, and occasionally be able to bend, stoop, crouch or kneel.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership, charge nurse, supervisor, assistant nurse manager, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement, staff development, and operational management preferred.
  • Specialty certification in relevant clinical area required within two years of hire or appointment.
  • Nurse Executive Certification (NE-BC, NEA-BC) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages operating and capital budgets in collaboration with Finance.
  • Monitors labor expenses, supply costs, and throughput metrics.
  • Implements strategies to improve efficiency while maintaining quality and patient experience.
  • Uses data and analytics to drive operational decision-making.
  • Ensures responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Creates and sustains a healthy work environment that promotes engagement, resilience, and professional fulfillment.
  • Recruits, retains, develops, and mentors a diverse nursing workforce.
