About The Position
The University of Rochester is seeking a motivated individual for the Thoracic/Surgical Specialty Unit. This position requires a demonstrated commitment to patient and family-centered care and continuous positive performance improvement. The Nurse Manager will be accountable for patient care quality and safety measures, and the unit budget. They will ensure a structure that supports ongoing nursing education, staff satisfaction, and staff retention for all levels of staff. The ability to work with a diverse interdisciplinary team utilizing strong interpersonal & communication skills is necessary. Flexibility, open-mindedness for change, and a positive attitude are a must.
Requirements
- NYS RN license
- MS degree required or plan for achievement
- 3-5 years med surg experience required

Responsibilities
- Maintains responsibility for management oversight of more than one inpatient area and serves as a resource for Nurse Managers and others in the Department.
- Participates in service or departmental level program planning and assessment and allocation of resources.
- Oversees and directs unit or departmental activities including standards development, implementation and monitoring, human resource management, assessment and monitoring of resource needs and utilization, staff development, and communication within nursing practice as well as among other disciplines and departments.
- Represents the unit and service on committees at all levels within the institution.
- Accountability for patient care quality and safety measures, and the unit budget.
- Ensures a structure that supports ongoing nursing education, staff satisfaction and staff retention for all levels of staff.
