About The Position

Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is an 1,045 bed facility located in the Texas medical center, recognized for research and clinical excellence in cardiovascular care, neuroscience, oncology, and transplantation. The hospital includes the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center and the new McNair Campus, designed for patient, visitor, staff, and physician safety. As the Manager of Perioperative Services, this role provides comprehensive leadership and operational oversight for all perioperative phases, ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient surgical care. The position focuses on optimizing patient outcomes and staff performance by managing multidisciplinary teams, optimizing surgical schedules, overseeing resource allocation, and implementing best practices to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency. Responsibilities also include monitoring financial performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement. Success in this role requires extensive perioperative clinical/leadership experience, a deep understanding of surgical processes, and exceptional interpersonal/problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on inspiring staff, managing challenges, and strategically aligning services to achieve superior surgical outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 3 years leadership experience (for new hires starting January 2016 onwards)
  • OR 4-6 years or a minimum of 5 years leadership experience in the discipline
  • OR Master's Degree with no experience
  • Registered Nurse (upon hire)
  • Registered Nurse: TX license (upon hire)
  • Basic Life Support - CPR (within 14 days of hire)
  • Extensive perioperative clinical/leadership experience
  • Deep understanding of surgical processes
  • Exceptional interpersonal/problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive leadership and operational oversight for all perioperative phases, ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient surgical care.
  • Optimize patient outcomes and staff performance.
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams.
  • Optimize surgical schedules.
  • Oversee resource allocation.
  • Implement best practices to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Monitor financial performance.

  • Coordinate patient flow throughout the perioperative services areas from admission to discharge.
  • Consult in a variety of patient care situations requiring advanced competency and knowledge.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for problem solving and assist staff with patient related issues.
  • Serve as a role model to develop staff competence in the delivery of nursing care.
  • Be responsible for cost effective operations and initiatives, including product evaluation, prevention of waste & damage, materials management, patient flow, control of overtime, & appropriate staff mix.
  • Provide safe, quality care directly to a surgical patient as needed.
