About The Position

The Nurse Extern provides patient-centered care on a 29-bed, fast-paced post-surgical inpatient unit under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The unit cares for orthopedic, spine, general surgery, gynecologic, and medical patients. The Nurse Extern supports patient safety, comfort, and well-being; assists the nursing team and responds to emergent situations; and develops nursing skills while advancing their education.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, or current enrollment in the Henry Ford Health Early College Program with completion of two clinical rotations.
• Enrollment in an accredited school of nursing with completion of two clinical rotations, including one in a Med/Surg acute care setting.
• Current Health Care Provider Certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform specific patient care duties to meet patients’ safety and comfort needs under RN supervision.
• Provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
• Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
• Participate in continuing education to enhance nursing skills and knowledge.
