Nurse Extern PRN General Surgery Trauma Unit
About The Position
Henrico Doctors' Hospital is seeking a Nurse Extern for its General Surgery Trauma Unit. As part of the nursing team, the Nurse Extern gains hands-on experience with the scope of the Registered Nurse role while helping deliver safe, compassionate patient care. The role supports the development of skills and confidence for increasing responsibilities as the employee progresses through a nursing program. The Nurse Extern provides basic patient care, assists with nursing tasks within their growing competency, documents care, and communicates updates to the nursing team. The role also supports patients and families, maintains a clean and safe care environment, and participates in learning and career-development activities with a supervisor or preceptor.
Requirements
- Obtain Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start date.
- Associate degree or bachelor's degree.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, mobility, comfort, and hygiene.
- Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency develop.
- Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
- Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance related to health and recovery.
- Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and keeping the environment organized.
- Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
