About The Position

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is seeking nursing students for its Student Nurse Externship Program. Externs gain hands-on clinical experience in a pediatric healthcare setting while working alongside experienced Registered Nurses. The program offers mentorship and opportunities to strengthen clinical judgment, critical thinking, technical nursing skills, patient-care prioritization, and professional nursing practices while preparing students to transition from nursing school to Registered Nurse roles.

The role is intended for nursing students anticipating graduation in May 2028 who can complete required nursing orientation and training during winter break in December 2026. The schedule consists of rotating 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with one 12-hour shift every other weekend on Saturday or Sunday, plus one summer holiday and one winter holiday.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Anticipated graduation date of May 2028.
• Successfully completed at least the first year of clinical nursing coursework.
• Available to complete required nursing orientation and training in December 2026.
• Ability to meet the rotating shift, weekend, and holiday scheduling requirements.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• BLS Certification.
• Computer skills, including use and navigation.
• General clerical skills.
• Good reasoning skills.
• Listening skills.

Responsibilities
