Nurse Extern - Intensive Critical Care Unit
About The Position
The Nurse Extern performs patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a UVA Community Health Registered Nurse in an inpatient or outpatient setting. The extern assists patients with personal care as needed, performs basic nursing skills delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedures, helps provide a safe environment and safe delivery of care, performs administrative support functions, and maintains required skills and competencies. This eight-week program runs from June 14, 2027, through August 7, 2027. Following orientation, the schedule is 36–40 hours per week across three 12-hour shifts. Candidates must be flexible to work either days or nights to match their preceptor’s schedule. The stated base compensation is $17.28 per hour. Applicants must be nursing students entering their final year, with expected graduation between December 2027 and May 2028. BSN students must have completed their third year; ASN students must have completed their first year. Students may remain employed as Nurse Externs until graduation. After graduation and board completion, they must apply for open positions and continue through the hiring process.
