Nurse Extern- Intermediate Critical Care Unit
About The Position
The Nurse Extern performs patient-care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a UVA Community Health Registered Nurse in an inpatient or outpatient setting. The role assists patients with personal care, performs basic nursing skills delegated by an RN and in accordance with policies and procedures, supports a safe care environment, and maintains required skills and competencies. This is an eight-week program running June 14 through August 7, 2027. The schedule is 36–40 hours per week, consisting of three 12-hour shifts following orientation. Candidates must be flexible to work days or nights to match their preceptor’s schedule. Compensation is $17.28 per hour. Applicants must be nursing students entering their final year, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028. BSN students must have completed their third year; ASN students must have completed their first year. Externs may remain employed in the role until graduation. After graduation and board completion, they must apply for open positions and continue through the hiring process.

- No prior experience required.
