This is a Summer Nurse Extern position in the Emergency Department (ED) at Aurora Burlington. The extern will work in the Nurse Extern II role for 6-8 weeks, starting in early June, committing to 36-40 hours per week. The role involves assisting the Registered Nurse with patient care activities, including daily living, vital signs, and blood glucose monitoring. The extern will collaborate on care plans, observe patient responses to interventions, and communicate findings to the RN. They will also develop delegation skills, administer medications as delegated by the RN (after evaluation of clinical judgment and proficiency), manage an increased patient load with time management principles, and collect/synthesize patient data. In emergency situations, under RN supervision, the extern will participate in activities they are skilled in. The role also includes patient positioning and transporting duties requiring lifting and pushing/pulling, utilizing proper technique. The extern must demonstrate age-specific knowledge and skills for patient care, understanding growth and development principles.
