About The Position

Position Overview: The Nurse Extern provides fundamentals of nursing care (i.e. personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines, a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse, and under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse staff. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in a NLN School of Nursing with 2nd Level completed.
• Must be accepted in the Mississippi Hospital Association/MCQW Summer Student Externship program.
• Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
• Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
• Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.).
• Must have intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook and Word.
• The Nurse Extern must be willing to work on any unit with a similar skill set requirements for which the Nurse Extern has developed competency
• Must be accepted in the Mississippi Hospital Association/MCQW Summer Student Externship program.
• Requires availability for a total of 320 hours during the approved externship program.
