Nurse Extern II - PCU
About The Position
The Nurse Extern II (NE II) is a department-specific externship for nursing students in their graduating year who are seeking focused, hands-on experience within a particular unit. The role provides consistent exposure to one specialty area and supports advanced skill development before graduation. The Nurse Extern II provides patient care support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, participating in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation, and communicating significant observations to the RN within established scope and guidelines. This is a per diem position on the PCU, with a rotating shift. It is department-specific and is not a float role.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited RN nursing program.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course.
- Completion of the first round of clinical rotations in full.
- Must be within the final one to two academic terms of the nursing program (graduating year).
- AHA BLS certification required.
- This is a department-specific position and is not a float role.
- Nursing students who are not yet in their graduating year should apply to the Nurse Extern I (float pool) position instead.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Participate in patient care planning, implementation, observation, and evaluation within established scope and guidelines.
- Communicate significant observations to the Registered Nurse.
