About The Position

This position is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating staff development and educational activities designed to address identified or anticipated needs of learners for assigned areas. The role assures the quality of patient care and clinical practice progression through the assessment, coaching, and development of nursing staff, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. This includes all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and the outcomes of care patients receive. The specialist participates in the development and implementation of educational programs for the entire Nursing Department. Key responsibilities include communicating and educating on changes to clinical practice, monitoring compliance, and collaborating with the leadership team on strategic planning for nursing staff development. The role also involves acting as a member of the nursing leadership team, participating in interviews and orientations, and ensuring departmental compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control. A significant aspect of the role is promoting a culture of safety, investigating safety reports, and escalating serious reportable events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • Currently holds an active RN license in the State of Massachusetts.
  • BLS Certification.
  • ACLS Certification.
  • At least 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a clinical preceptor and/or charge nurse role.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation computer software.
  • Position requires frequent use of the computer, keyboard and printer; educational equipment such as teaching manikins, simulators, LCD projectors, etc.; and reading of printed materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching.
  • Process improvement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating staff development and educational activities for assigned areas.
  • Assuring the quality of patient care and clinical practice progression through staff assessment, coaching, and development.
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Addressing all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and patient outcomes.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of educational programs for the entire Nursing Department.
  • Communicating, educating, and monitoring changes to clinical practice and expectations.
  • Reviewing documentation, providing additional support to staff, and reporting ongoing non-compliance to management.
  • Collaborating with the leadership team in strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of systems to support and enhance nursing staff competence, autonomy, and accountability.
  • Defining nursing standards, practices, and educational needs of nursing staff.
  • Acting as a member of the nursing leadership team, participating in interview panels, orientation, and annual regulatory and clinical competency requirements.
  • Reporting unprofessional or unsafe practice to the Nurse Manager.
  • Assisting the Manager and/or designee to ensure department compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Promoting a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Reporting out on all entered Safety Intelligence Reports.
  • Responsible for initial review and investigation of safety reports and escalating serious reportable events (SRE) immediately to the Nurse Manager.
