This position is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating staff development and educational activities designed to address identified or anticipated needs of learners for assigned areas. The role assures the quality of patient care and clinical practice progression through the assessment, coaching, and development of nursing staff, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. This includes all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and the outcomes of care patients receive. The specialist participates in the development and implementation of educational programs for the entire Nursing Department. Key responsibilities include communicating and educating on changes to clinical practice, reviewing documentation, providing support to staff, and reporting non-compliance. The role also involves collaborating with the leadership team in strategic planning and implementation of systems to support nursing staff competence, autonomy, and accountability. As a member of the nursing leadership team, the specialist participates in interview panels, orientation, and annual regulatory and clinical competency requirements. They also promote a culture of safety, investigate safety reports, and escalate serious reportable events. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Education, or a related healthcare field, an active RN license in Massachusetts, BLS, and ACLS certifications. A minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 1 year in a clinical preceptor and/or charge nurse role, along with demonstrated leadership experience and proficiency in computer software, is required. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree and at least 3 years of teaching experience and process improvement experience.
