About The Position

This position is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating staff development and educational activities designed to address identified or anticipated needs of learners for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Acute Care Unit. The role assures the quality of patient care and clinical practice progression on assigned cross-campus unit(s) through the assessment, coaching, and development of nursing staff and collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. This includes all aspects of clinical practice, patient care, workplace safety, and the outcomes of care patients receive. The specialist participates in the development and implementation of educational programs for Pediatric Nursing, including Oncology. In the Clinical Practice & Patient Experience domain, the specialist is responsible for communicating, educating, and monitoring changes to clinical practice and expectations, including reviewing documentation, providing additional support to staff, and reporting ongoing non-compliance to management. They collaborate with the leadership team in the strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of systems to support and enhance the competence, autonomy, and accountability of the nursing staff, including defining nursing standards, practices, and educational needs. Within the Leadership/Management domain, the specialist acts as a member of the nursing leadership team by participating in interview panels, orientation, and annual regulatory and clinical competency requirements. They report unprofessional or unsafe practice to the Nurse Manager and assist the Manager and/or designee to ensure the department complies with hospital-established policies, regulatory, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures. In Quality, Safety and Experience Improvements, the specialist promotes a culture of safety within the organization, reports out on all entered Safety Intelligence Reports, and is responsible for the initial review and investigation of these reports, escalating serious reportable events (SRE) immediately to the Nurse Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • Currently holds an active RN license in the State of Massachusetts.
  • BLS Certification.
  • ACLS Certification.
  • At least 3 years of clinical nursing experience in pediatric ICU and inpatient care.
  • At least 1 year experience in clinical preceptor and/or charge nurse role.
  • At least 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an ED, level 1 preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation computer software.
  • Frequent use of computer, keyboard, and printer.
  • Use of educational equipment such as teaching manikins, simulators, LCD projectors, etc.
  • Reading of printed materials.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Education, or related healthcare field.
  • TNCC.
  • ENPC.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching.
  • Process improvement experience.
