About The Position

The Clinical Nurse and Education Specialist role is a hybrid position within Cayuga Health, combining responsibilities as an education specialist and a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department. The Educator's primary function is to bolster the educational enrollment of nursing pipeline programs within the region by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational needs and initiatives with partnering schools. This includes delivering didactic, simulation, and clinical facilitation training for entry- and middle-level nursing pipeline stages. The role emphasizes providing person-centered care, upholding nursing education best practices, and fostering learner engagement. As an RN, the position involves direct patient and family support and care within the full scope of practice, including participation in program development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation for patients, families, and the community. The position requires strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills, acting as a resource for clinical practice and operational systems, and assisting in implementing patient care standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' clinical experience.
  • Currently licensed in the State of New York as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills as well as strong organizational and computer skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Nursing Education preferred.
  • Educational experience preferred.
  • BLS Preferred.
  • Previous patient care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver education within set and developed curricula and demonstrate competence in providing education in didactic, clinical and simulation.
  • Provide feedback that will enhance learner performance, satisfaction and continued development.
  • Use evidenced based practice to guide decisions.
  • Relate to learners at and on all levels and provide education in an organized manner to all learners.
  • Act as role model, role modeling the mission and vision of the organization and the CHS Professional Practice Model.
  • Present a positive professional image to the medical center and community.
  • Anticipate potential and actual safety hazards and take appropriate action.
  • Demonstrate standard precautions and infection control techniques in educational and patient care settings.
  • Positively communicate with staff, management and other institutions regarding educational needs.
  • Participates in learner evaluations, program evaluations, competency management and tracking.
  • Design, deliver and evaluate educational curricula.
  • Demonstrate competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of patients and families.
  • Demonstrate initiative in remaining current on CHS policies, procedures and standards.
  • Act as a resource to peers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and compliance with established practices in clinical documentation.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, prioritizing both planned and unplanned events, and proactively addressing potential and actual problems.
  • Be a resource for clinical practice and operational systems.
  • Assist others and provide leadership in implementing the standards of the patient care.
  • Remaining flexible in assisting both patients and teammates as needed and in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.
  • Upholds all job responsibilities of a Registered Nurse.
  • Identify own professional development needs and seek appropriate resources to meet them.
