The Nurse Clinician role is responsible for developing policies and procedures for the Virtual Critical Care (VCC) unit and Critical Care Response Team (CCRT). This position coordinates, implements, and evaluates program-specific education and training for the VCC unit/CCRT and for North East (NE) Ontario health regional partners. The Nurse Clinician provides leadership, acts as a role model, and demonstrates clinical expertise in VCC/CCRT, while also implementing HSN Corporate initiatives with the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The role involves fostering a positive learning environment, providing guidance and support for patient care through staff education, and collaborating with regional partners and hospital committees. Key duties include maintaining databases for data collection and staff competencies, planning and organizing educational opportunities, and ensuring educational materials are effective. The position also involves supporting education sessions, mentoring new staff, contributing to orientation programs, and serving as an educational and clinical resource. Additionally, the Nurse Clinician works with Ontario Health (OH) - Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) to maintain proficiency in videoconferencing equipment, is responsible for VCC and CCRT program development and maintenance, and develops and maintains related medical directives. The role includes educating ward nurse personnel on recognizing deterioration, evaluating patient care, overseeing the work of others in compliance with health and safety legislation, and aligning improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan. Participation in relevant health and safety training, promoting workplace health and safety, and performing other duties as required are also part of the responsibilities.
