University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a 50% Nurse Clinician to work for the Digestive Health Clinic. This role functions as a clinical expert and care coordinator for a specific patient population, interfacing with administrative, clinical nursing staff, physicians, and patients/families. The position involves collaborating with nursing, medical staff, and other health professionals in developing and reviewing standards, and in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. It also includes direct nursing care when necessary, following universal precautions, and independently coordinating and facilitating patient care between multiple disciplines within UI Health Care and local communities. The role emphasizes facilitating continuity of care, coordinating patient care to better utilize supportive services, pre-scheduling testing, following up on test results, obtaining medical history, coordinating follow-up appointments, and providing medication and rehabilitation teaching. The Nurse Clinician participates in the ongoing management of the patient to facilitate timely discharge, interacts professionally and cooperatively with staff, patients, medical staff, and peers, and assumes responsibility for maintaining clinical expertise consistent with patient population requirements and current nursing and medical practice. The position also involves developing management and consultant skills, adhering to professional and legal standards, maintaining confidentiality, promoting a positive work environment, demonstrating core values of service leadership, remaining calm and constructive in conflict situations, analyzing own performance, and being self-directed in time management.
