About The Position

As a member of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Community Mental Health Nurse is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team providing intensive case management to individuals with chronic and persistent mental illness. These services are provided within an individual and group context. Responsibilities include intensive case management, medication management, crisis intervention, counselling, goal planning, consultation to community agencies, group/community education, student mentoring, documentation, client/family and public education, advocacy, and mental health promotion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

  • 3 years experience in a community or acute mental health setting
  • Ability to provide counseling and therapy to individuals, couples and groups
  • Knowledge in demographics and culture in within the SHA
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of Social Assistance Program Regulations
  • Knowledge of Regional Health Policies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act/related legislation
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Commitment to continued learning and professional development.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Approved Home Policy & Regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of crisis assessment and intervention
  • Knowledge of Rehabilitation Program Guidelines demonstrated
  • Knowledge in psychiatric diagnoses, treatment, and medications
  • Ability to conduct assessments/prioritize client needs/develop treatment plans
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act and Family Services Act
  • Knowledge in psychological assessment and diagnosis based on DSM-IV-TR
  • Current registration w/ Registered Psych. Nursing Assoc. of SK (RPNAS) required
  • Current PART and CPR certification
  • Pathological gambling training
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Valid driver's license, where required
  • Ability to accurately assess mental health and mental health related issues and make appropriate recovery plans and referrals.
  • Individual, group and crisis management/stabilization counselling skills.
  • Ability to promote healthy lifestyles in urban or rural settings and with diverse populations.
