About The Position

The Detox Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to clients participating in the Brief and Social Detox Programs within the Saskatoon Health Region. This role requires familiarity with current drugs of abuse, withdrawal management strategies, and provincial resources to develop appropriate care plans. The incumbent will triage and provide nursing support for clients with acute medical, psychiatric, and detoxification issues. Key responsibilities include facilitating the development and monitoring compliance of Withdrawal Management, Medication Management, and Medical Protocols in the Brief and Social Detox Program. The Detox Nurse will also build strong relationships with attending physicians, team members, and other service partners across the Saskatoon Health Region and the province.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing experience
  • 1 year experience in a mental health setting
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
  • College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) membership
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Level C Certificate (CPR)
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Basic writing skills
  • Basic decision making skills
  • Basic verbal communication skills
  • Basic critical thinking skills
  • Basic interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge in harm reduction in Addictions Medicine
  • Knowledge in drugs of abuse and their effects
  • Knowledge in Provincial Addiction Clinical Model and DSM-4R
  • Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
  • Knowledge in Transtheoretical model of change
  • Knowledge in marginalized populations
  • Ability to respond to clients' varying concerns and complex requests
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Experience ensuring compliance with addiction related medical protocols an asset
