About The Position

As a member of an interdisciplinary team and under the supervision of the Team Leader, the incumbent will be responsible for creating a therapeutic environment in which you will deliver a high standard of care by counseling clients who are diagnosed with chemical dependency and Mental Health concerns. Responsibilities include providing informational programming as well as individual and group therapy sessions, assessing for both physical and mental health problems, liaising and assisting detox physicians with their detox practice, providing backup nursing services for the Harm Reduction Methadone Program and Drug Treatment Court and liaising with acute care facilities as per referrals into Addiction Services. You will also be expected to assist EMTs in performing their tasks, monitoring and occasionally providing Phlebotomy services at Detox. As a nurse you will administer medications and drug screening tests as required. You will provide medication education to clients and assist medical consultants for the Brief /Social Detox, Methadone Clinic and Drug Treatment Court and other nursing duties as required.

Requirements

  • Expert in assessment, diagnosis & treatment of major mental health & addiction issues
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with clients with substance use disorder and/or BBI/STI
  • Graduate of general nursing supplemented by postgrad training in psychiatric nursing
  • Graduation from an approved school of psychiatric nursing
  • Current College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) membership
  • Current Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) membership
  • Current PART certification
  • Current CPR certification
  • Ability to develop & present educational information for clients, team members & other agencies
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Culture and traditions
  • Knowledge in best practices in addictions and harm reduction strategies
  • Demonstrated competency in psychiatric mental health assessment
  • Demonstrates knowledge of a Holistic Addiction Treatment Model
  • Ability to facilitate program development & create strong bonds with addiction providers
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals
  • Ability to treat addiction & withdrawal from opioids in clinic & outreach setting
  • Ability to work independently to plan and prioritize workload demands
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field
  • Ability to deliver workshops and lecture material to clients and community
  • Ability to accurately assess addictions and make appropriate recovery plans
  • Knowledge related to mental and physical needs of clients using assessment tools
  • Knowledge of mood altering medications & how clients are affected by these
  • Knowledge in addictions screening, assessment tools and procedures
