Nurse Assistant Progressive Care Unit
About The Position
The Nurse Assistant works in the 72-bed Progressive Care Unit at Farmington Hills Hospital, providing patient and family-centered care to patients with progressive-care acuity. The unit cares for a wide variety of critically ill patients, including patients requiring titrated cardiac drips, ventilatory support, or a higher level of supportive care. Nurse Assistants work with nurses and telemetry technicians as part of the care team. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Assistant provides care according to the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy. The role also includes transporting patients, providing constant observation in person or through remote video monitoring when assessed as necessary for patient safety, documenting care in the electronic medical record, and completing receptionist and clerical duties that support the nursing unit.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
- Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
- Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate Corewell Health customer service standards and behaviors in all aspects of job performance.
Nice To Haves
- Previous hospital or nursing home experience.
- Current CNA certification.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Basic computer knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care according to the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Transport patients safely by wheelchair or stretcher; coordinate dispatch services and document services appropriately.
- Provide in-person or remote video observation for patients assessed to require constant observation to maximize safety.
- Perform general receptionist and clerical duties to support efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
- Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
