Nurse Assistant Med Surg Oncology 5 West
About The Position
The Nurse Assistant provides patient care according to the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The role is based on 5 West, a 44-bed oncology and hospice unit with private rooms at Troy Hospital. Duties also include safe patient transport, observation services for patients requiring constant observation, receptionist and clerical tasks, and documenting care in the electronic medical record. The position is part-time, works night shifts from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., and is scheduled for 24 hours per week, with workdays spanning Sunday through Saturday and every third weekend. The role requires a consecutive week of corporate orientation, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of hire.
Nice To Haves
- Previous hospital or nursing home experience.
- Current CNA certification.
Responsibilities
- Provide care to patients according to the plan of care, unit routine, and hospital policy under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Transport patients safely by wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services, and document services appropriately.
- Provide in-person or remote video observation for patients assessed to require constant observation to maximize their safety.
- Perform general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit.
- Document care provided in the electronic medical record.
