About The Position

The Nurse Apprentice works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) in the clinical setting and participates appropriately in the patient care delivery process. The Nurse Apprentice is expected to work at least 12 hours per week during their last semester, as allowed under the State of Utah guidelines for a Nurse Apprentice.

Responsibilities

  • Routinely observes, discusses, and demonstrates understanding of the steps in the nursing process and how the patient plan of care is developed, implemented, and revised to meet the needs of the patient (under direct supervision of an RN).
  • Collects patient data (e.g., vital signs) and reports significant changes in patient condition to the supervising RN.
  • Completes accurate documentation, which is verified by the supervising RN.
  • Reports patient responses to treatments and collaborates with the RN regarding changes requiring modification of nursing interventions to meet patient needs.
  • Assists an RN with Arterial line (ART) line blood draws.
  • Assists an RN with Blood transfusion.
  • Assists an RN with IV therapy.
  • Assists an RN with Oral medication administration.
  • Assists an RN with Initiating tube feedings.
