Collaborates with the anesthesiologist, the surgeon, and the healthcare team in providing a comprehensive pre-procedure evaluation and initiates appropriate diagnostic procedures and physician referrals. This role involves pre-anesthesia evaluation and preparation, administration of general and regional anesthesia and all levels of sedation techniques, and post-anesthesia care for children, adolescent, and adult patients. The Nurse Anesthetist will select, obtain, order, and administer pre-anesthetic medications or treatment related to the care of the patient and seek consultation when appropriate. They will conduct an appropriate physical screening assessment to obtain an appropriate health history and document the pre-anesthetic evaluation to obtain a comprehensive informed consent for anesthesia and related services. The position also involves recommending, requesting, and evaluating pertinent diagnostic studies, and managing emergency situations, including initiating or participating in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Additionally, the role includes managing interventional pain therapy, performing arterial puncture, providing consultation and implementation of respiratory and ventilator care, and selecting, obtaining, or administering anesthetics and related drugs. The Nurse Anesthetist will evaluate patient response during emergence from anesthesia, obtain, prepare, and use all necessary equipment, perform all aspects of airway management, and perform and manage regional anesthetic techniques. They will provide appropriate invasive and non-invasive monitoring, recognize and correct abnormal patient responses, and discharge patients from post-anesthesia care areas according to policy. The role also entails initiating and administering pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system and respiratory support, and providing post-anesthesia follow-up.
