About The Position

To perform intermediate technical and administrative work associated with nuisance and code abatement, including database entry, case management, reporting, and field inspections. Receives, documents, and responds to complaints regarding potential violations of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and City Code; enters and maintains all case information in the City’s database system. Maintains case files through programs such as Excel. Conducts field inspections to determine compliance, document findings, and identify violations. Prepares and issues written notices of non-compliance and violation letters using approved language; ensures proper service and documentation of notices in accordance with established procedures and legal requirements. Posts notices for non-compliance at properties when required and communicates directly with property owners and occupants regarding violations and required corrective actions. Maintains accurate, up-to-date case records and supporting documentation to ensure proper tracking and reporting. Monitors and manages cases through the enforcement process to achieve compliance. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of municipal zoning regulations and nuisance enforcement procedures, or the ability and willingness to quickly learn and apply such regulations.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and procedurally sound notices and formal correspondence.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in maintaining accurate records within a computerized database system.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation, reporting, and case management.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and consistently follow through to resolution.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative, persistence, and a strong sense of accountability.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with property owners, occupants and the public.
  • NC driver’s license without restrictions
  • Certified in CPR & First Aid

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited community college with an associate’s degree or certificate in business administration, public administration, construction management, or a related field is preferred and/or any combination of education and work experience.
