About The Position

This role involves providing on-site directions to seasonal/temporary blight removal teams, assisting code enforcement officers with property evaluations and inspections for violation abatement, and preparing detailed reports with photographic records. The position also requires performing various abatement tasks, driving city vehicles, disposing of waste, trimming vegetation, shoveling snow, and maintaining vehicles and equipment. The worker must be available for emergency situations outside of regular working hours and adhere to all safety standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Two years of full-time experience as a Blight Abatement Worker I or equivalent (4 years full-time related experience).
  • Ability to effectively communicate both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and display a positive public-service attitude.
  • Must be able to work independently and make quick decisions when needed.
  • Requires moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Requires sufficient physical skills to successfully accomplish essential functions in stated environment, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to perform year-round outdoor manual labor under all weather conditions.
  • Produce legible reports, learn procedures, perform simple mathematical computations and follow complex directions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site directions to blight removal team members (Seasonal/temporary staff).
  • Assist code enforcement officers in evaluation/inspection of properties for violation abatement.
  • Prepare reports and maintain detailed records including photographic records; Provide daily billing reports.
  • Abate violations at properties which may include any combination of the following: using powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, snow blowers, hedge or brush trimmers, chainsaw and similar machinery; Use of hand shovels, rakes, brooms and similar equipment.
  • Drive city owned vehicles.
  • Dispose of trash and waste materials from properties generated from trash hauler refusals and Court ordered removal.
  • Trim trees or other vegetation; shovel snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spread salt as required.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment; reports malfunctions to supervisor; Ensure that supplies are stocked.
  • Available to respond to emergency situations during non-working hours.
  • Adheres to all safety standards for the operation and maintenance of all City owned equipment.
  • Hauls various materials and picks up refuse including dirt, debris, trash and dead animals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
