About The Position

Nuclear Operations Technicians perform plant surveillances and operate valves and other equipment at McGuire Nuclear Station. The position includes reporting system and component status through a computerized rounds process, starting and stopping equipment as directed by operating procedures, testing system components, and isolating and restoring equipment. Technicians serve as active members of the station Fire Brigade and complete ongoing training to maintain job proficiency. While serving as an Auxiliary Operator, the employee is expected to pursue advancement to a licensed position through academic and job-knowledge progression. This includes completing generic fundamentals training and a plant-specific license class leading to an NRC-administered license exam. The stated progression is approximately five years from Auxiliary Operator to selection for Reactor Operator training, followed by approximately two years to selection for Senior Reactor Operator training. The position is performed onsite at a company facility and involves shift work, frequent overtime, and weekend and holiday work. Outdoor surveillance is required year-round on both day and night shifts. The plant environment may include extreme temperatures, high humidity, dust, fumes, high noise, and rotating equipment with high-temperature, high-pressure fluids. The role requires wearing protective clothing and includes climbing, stooping, pulling, and pushing. Travel is 5–15%. The anticipated start date is February 8, 2027. Depending on the successful applicant’s qualifications, the position may be filled at a higher level within the job hierarchy.
