Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor Degree
  • Board Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • State License in Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • BCLS certification

Responsibilities

  • Performs day to day operations pertaining to testing, processing, quality control, and quality assurance in the lab.
  • Responsible for adhering to State, NRC, and OSHA standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining standards for accreditation and the Health Care Facility License.
  • Greet and screen patients, determine appropriateness of exam, and obtain proper consent.
  • Reviews blood test results.
  • Prep patients to include IV insertion and EKG lead placement.
  • Prepares diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals for administration.
  • Injects radioisotopes according to exam warranted.
  • Performs nuclear medicine scans to include acquisition, processing, display, and archiving.
  • Participates in stress testing and aids in monitoring of patient.
  • Prepares and infuses adjunctive medications under the supervision of a physician.
  • Prepares documentation for therapeutic procedures (written directive, discharge instructions).
  • Reviews discharge instructions with therapy patients.
  • Performs radiation safety duties (package check in, surveys, wipe tests etc.).
  • Performs and documents daily, weekly, monthly, and semi-annual QC on all imaging equipment.
  • Performs and documents daily, weekly, quarterly, and annual QC on all hot lab equipment under the direction of the RSO and Health Physicist.
  • Maintains all documentation in accordance with regulatory bodies.
  • Prepares schedule, dose order, and charts for the next day.
  • Orders and maintains stock of supplies.
  • Maintains CE’s and BLS according to professional license and accreditation standards.
  • Retrieves old studies from archive media for comparison to current studies.
  • Participates in at least one area of Quality Assurance program and attends regular meetings.
  • Adheres to State/NRC guidelines for radiation safety and attends annual review.
