About The Position

Prepares, measures, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in diagnostic and therapeutic studies, utilizing a variety of equipment and following prescribed procedures. This role involves preparing stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculating doses, and administering them under physician direction. The technologist will also calibrate equipment, perform diagnostic studies using scanners or scintillation cameras, measure radioactivity, and administer therapeutic doses. Radiation safety techniques, patient care, and explaining procedures to patients are key aspects of this position. Additionally, the role may involve performing PET and other designated research studies.

  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technology (CNMT) - Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB)

Responsibilities

  • Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceutical materials, calculates doses and administers doses under the direction of a physician.
  • Calibrates equipment.
  • Performs diagnostic studies on patients as prescribed by physician using scanners or scintillation cameras to detect radiation emitted and to produce image of organ on photographic film.
  • Measures radioactivity, using Geiger counters, scalers and scintillation detectors.
  • Administers therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals under direction of physician.
  • Follows radiation safety techniques in use and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Renders appropriate patient care.
  • Explains test procedures and safety precautions to patients and assists them during procedures.
  • Performs PET and other designated research studies in accordance with necessary study procedures so that studies are completed as designed.
