About The Position

Truckee Meadows Community College, located in Reno, NV is seeking applicants for an NSHE Specialist 1 in the Financial Aid department. The NSHE Specialist 1 position oversees the Student Employment Program and financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) ensuring full compliance with applicable institutional, state, and federal regulations. The position is also responsible for processing consortium agreements, and assisting with the disbursement of the Nevada Promise Scholarship Program. The position will provide financial aid counseling to students, participate in financial aid outreach events which include evenings and weekend work, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of relevant experience; OR Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three (3) years of program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada state service which included applying complex laws and regulations, composing written materials and maintaining records; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of the Student Employment Program, including policy updates, employer compliance monitoring, and reconciling work study.
  • Serve as the primary administrator for SAP which includes advising students on SAP policies, process appeals within established timelines, monitor students on appeals, and maintain appeal documentation.
  • Evaluate, award, and disburse the Nevada Promise Scholarship.
  • Review and process financial aid consortium agreements by verifying student enrollment and eligibility.
  • Coordinating with other NSHE institutions to confirm degree applicability.
  • Manually update student awards each semester, and monitor student progress.
  • Counsel students on financial aid in person, over the phone, and in email.
