About The Position

Johnson & Johnson RAD (Robotics and Digital) is seeking an NPI Software Engineer/Surgical Robotics/OTTAVA, for our Santa Clara, Location. This role focuses on developing and deploying test software solutions to support the manufacturing of complex electro-mechanical components within a medical robotics system. It involves designing automated test algorithms, building scalable software infrastructure, and ensuring high standards of repeatability and validation. The position also supports troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and data-driven insights to improve manufacturing processes, while collaborating cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and data teams in a regulated MedTech environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or related engineering field is required.
  • Experience working on instrumentation automation and using scripting languages such as Python, Shell, SQL, Batch, Bash, or Linux commands is required.
  • Proficiency in software engineering and development tools is required.
  • Ability to produce high quality documentation that is clearly understandable by internal and external personnel is required.
  • Experience with test software, scripting and test software design is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to contract manufacturers is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated testing of mechatronics or robotics systems is highly preferred.
  • Experience in Product Lifecycle Management systems such as Oracle Agile is highly preferred.
  • Experience in Medical Device industry is preferred.
  • Understanding of electrical systems and power electronics is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Manufacturing and Design teams to design, develop, document, and qualify test software used during the manufacturing of electro-mechanical components and subassemblies of a medical robotics system.
  • Develop test algorithms, test scripts, data acquisition and measurement systems with focus on repeatability and reproducibility.
  • Write well designed, testable code to automate test processes utilizing in-house developed software frameworks.
  • Develop infrastructure such as common libraries and APIs to support multiple teams test software across manufacturing.
  • Provide debugging and troubleshooting support on in-house developed software scripts and processes.
  • Perform root cause and failure analysis on electromechanical devices.
  • Work with data platform solutions to automate analysis and processing of supply chain and manufacturing data.
  • Release test software documentation and deploy software to a manufacturing environment.
  • Develop qualification and validation protocols for complex software driven processes.
  • Author and release validation documentation for software scripts and tools.
  • Provide detailed status and tracking of activities
