About The Position

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital (WDH) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join their Women & Children’s Center, specifically within the 12-bed Level IIB Special Care Nursery. This role involves providing care to infants born at 32 weeks of gestation and higher, with close collaboration with Mass General Brigham Academic Medical Centers ensuring advanced infant care. The APP will be part of a dynamic group of advanced practice practitioners and physicians, led by a neonatologist medical director, and supported by MGH pediatric subspecialties. The position requires providing delivery room (DR) coverage, including attending high-risk deliveries, neonatal resuscitation, and newborn evaluations. The APP will also provide prenatal neonatology consultations and manage infants in the Newborn Nursery and the Level IIB NICU as a primary provider. This includes daily rounding, comprehensive assessments, developing care plans, coordinating discharge, supporting families, and conducting family meetings. The NP is a licensed provider responsible for assessing and managing patients with medical and/or surgical conditions, providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, developing care plans, and conducting ongoing evaluations.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nursing required
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - MA
  • Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of New Hampshire and be appropriately board certified/eligible.
  • Experience as a Nurse Practitioner 0-1 year preferred
  • Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Provide delivery room (DR) coverage at WDH, including attending high risk deliveries upon request.
  • Provide neonatal resuscitation.
  • Evaluate newborns in the delivery room and newborn nurseries.
  • Provide all necessary in-house and outpatient prenatal neonatology consultations requested by obstetric staff.
  • Manage infants in the Newborn Nursery as a primary provider in collaboration with supervising physician, including daily rounding, daily comprehensive assessments, review of patient data, and development of plans for all infants.
  • Manage infants in the Level IIB NICU as a primary provider, including daily rounding with a multidisciplinary team, daily comprehensive assessments, review of patient data, and development of plans for a caseload of infants.
  • Responsible for daily care, coordinating and planning discharge home, supporting and updating families, and conducting family meetings.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions in accordance with organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
