About The Position

This role involves operating snowmobiles and light grooming equipment to maintain snowshoe trails and create a safe, consistent snow surface on ski and snowshoe trails. The position requires monitoring trail signage, performing trailside maintenance, and assisting with ticket checking. Collaboration with the Nordic Center Manager, Grooming Manager, and Snowcat Operator is essential for productive and efficient operations. The role also involves communicating grooming status to staff and guests, utilizing knowledge of Nordic skiing and snow science, and assisting with trail preparation for races and events.

Requirements

Current and Valid Driver’s License.
Experience with snowmobiles.
Extensive knowledge and proficiency in classic and skate Nordic skiing.
Ability to adapt to a changing environment at any given moment.
Ability to work for extended periods in harsh winter weather.
Frequent shoveling, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to snowshoe through deep and heavy snow conditions.
Ability to snowmobile during winter storms, deep and drifting snow, low light, and on frozen and icy surfaces.
Ability to shovel snow and walk on steep and uneven surfaces.
Experience in front-line guest service.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to read and write clearly.
Minimum age requirement: 18+

Experience strongly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Operate snowmobile drag and track setting equipment to groom and compact snow for a consistent snow surface product during and after storms, during events, and as required for daily Nordic ski operations.
Use snowshoes to set and maintain snowshoe trails after storms and as needed.
Clean and maintain Bob’s Bungalow and picnic areas.
Monitor weather conditions and advise grooming status for the Nordic Manager.
Check snowmobile daily for optimal operational efficiency, monitor service hours, and notify when service is needed.
Complete snowmobile training and operate the snowmobile in accordance with Mt Bachelor’s guidelines and safety standards.
Complete safety training and demonstrate proficiency in the use of chainsaw and hand tools.
Cut trees, limbs, and brush that endanger or impede skier traffic on trails.
Understand shop procedures and report equipment issues clearly and correctly.
Inform the Nordic Manager or Grooming Manager of changes or problems.
Follow all safety protocols.
Assist with Nordic Center events, including preparation and maintenance of trails and lodge.
May work Nordic Events in roles including crowd control, ticket checking, course monitor, aid station management, tour guide, activity instructor, etc.
Perform pass enforcement duties at the gate, at all trail access points, and on the trails.
