PURPOSE Under general supervision, responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and provides medical responses including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical care, and medical transports to hospitals or other emergency care facilities; participates in community risk reduction and public education activities; and performs related duties as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The classification of Paramedic is an advanced journey-level class within the Fire Department Emergency Medical Services Division. Incumbents in this class are non-firefighters. When in the field, incumbents in this class may receive direction from the respective Company Officer however, incumbents are expected to perform the full range of Paramedic emergency medical assistance duties as specified by Central California Emergency Medical Services Agency (CCEMSA) and Selma Fire Department policies, procedures, and protocols. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED? Incumbents work under general supervision and incumbent’s assignments, work methods, and sequence of steps are outlined or explained in general terms within scope of practice. Employees are expected to apply learned theory and use own judgement. Work review is not constant however, incumbents are expected to ensure compliance. Employees in this class typically report to the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Supervisor.
