About The Position

As a Noise & Vibration engineer for mechanical noise you will evaluate noise from fans, keyboards, trackpads, and buttons across all of Apple’s product lines as well as set limits for such noise. Along the way you will work with module, system, functional, and manufacturing teams to optimize the sound of Apple products. We do not own any product designs, but we work with the design owners and provide design guidance where possible.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of acoustics and vibration principles and how motion of mechanical systems turns into radiated noise
  • Acoustic and vibration measurement experience
  • Data analysis skills for transient and quasi-steady signals (e.g. time series, FFT, spectrogram)
  • Critical listener with good hearing over the audible frequency range
  • Basic knowledge of programming in order to create/modify data processing scripts and metric calculations
  • Creative problem solver with attention to details who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data collection using low-noise microphones in anechoic/hemi-anechoic chambers
  • Experience with fan noise testing and drivers of tonal and broadband fan noise aspects
  • Experience with testing noise of mechanical buttons/switches and methods to automate actuation of such
  • History of developing high-volume consumer electronics
