About The Position

The NOC Operator is responsible for monitoring all channels distributed from AMCN B&T to ensure signal quality, proper local commercial insertion, and accurate viewership crediting. This role involves logging into and checking numerous signal encoders for alarms, bandwidth, temperature, and filter status, as well as troubleshooting issues. The operator will perform system checks on routing systems, satellite receivers, and Mediaproxy systems to confirm functionality and signal quality. They will also verify encrypted messages, review transmission paths, schedule downlink requests, program live blackouts and service replacements, and monitor the Affiliate Hotline for engineering calls. A key responsibility includes walking the Encoding Hub each shift to check encoder alarm status, making high-leverage decisions without supervisor support, and assisting in training new operators.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-5 years experience in Transmission or related discipline
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and troubleshooting skills required.
  • Detail oriented, organized and capable of handling multiple concurrent issues under high-pressure situations with accuracy required.
  • Ability to work closely with peers and operations and engineering teams.
  • Ability to function in a 24/7 operational environment and work flexible schedule which could include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred; focus on broadcasting technology or similar discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of signal flow within a broadcast facility preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of encoding platforms, such as Synamedia and CommScope systems, preferred.
  • Understanding of equipment such as routers, analyzers, receivers, and encoders preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all channels distributed from AMCN B&T to ensure signal quality going out of house and clean signal coming back in house.
  • Ensure tones to trigger local commercial insertion are going out as expected.
  • Ensure Nielsen SID is distributed for proper crediting of viewership.
  • Log into all signal encoders (over seventy-five encoders) and check for alarm status, bandwidth analysis, device temperature and device filter status.
  • Troubleshoot issues as necessary.
  • Perform system checks including routing mirror and disaster recovery systems to workstations to confirm system functionality.
  • Check satellite receivers in the NOC and SAT Hubs to confirm good margin levels for signal quality.
  • Confirm Mediaproxy system is recording all channels to ensure ability to provide evidence of clean and accurate transmission when needed.
  • Verify encrypted messages are going out as intended.
  • Review Crystal Monitoring & Control to confirm proper transmission path on air.
  • Schedule downlink requests as needed from home office.
  • Program and operate live blackouts and service replacements.
  • Monitor Affiliate Hotline to receive any affiliate engineering calls and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Walk the Encoding Hub each shift to check alarm status on encoders.
  • Make high leverage decisions without supervisor support.
  • Assist in training newer operators.
