NOC Network Solutions Engineer
About The Position
VSO is seeking an experienced NOC Network Solutions Engineer (Tier 4) for an onsite, senior-level role in Lorton, Virginia. The position focuses on network architecture, strategic planning, high-level problem-solving, and the design and optimization of enterprise network infrastructure. The engineer will guide network strategy, evaluate technologies, support critical issue resolution, and mentor NOC staff. Candidates must hold an active Top Secret security clearance, meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification requirements, and be willing to work non-standard hours, including on-call duties. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of experience in network engineering, architecture, or solutions development.
- Expertise in enterprise networking protocols, including BGP, OSPF, MPLS, TCP/IP, VLANs, and VPNs.
- Advanced knowledge of network security principles and solutions, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and encryption.
- Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale, mission-critical network systems.
- Strong understanding of hybrid and cloud networking environments, such as AWS and Azure.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Must be within driving distance of Lorton, Virginia, or willing to relocate.
- Must be willing to work onsite.
- Must have an active Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
- Must be willing to work non-standard hours, including on-call duties.
- Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification requirements, such as Security+ CE or CCNA Security.

- Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIE, or equivalent are highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement complex network solutions for enterprise-level operations.
- Lead network architecture projects and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Evaluate emerging network technologies and recommend solutions to improve performance, security, and scalability.
- Collaborate with Tier 3 engineers and other technical teams to develop and implement network improvements.
- Provide expert-level guidance on troubleshooting and root cause analysis for critical network issues.
- Develop and enforce network policies, standards, and best practices.
- Oversee capacity planning, performance optimization, and future-proofing of network infrastructure.
- Mentor and support NOC staff across all tiers to build technical competencies and ensure consistent operations.
- Document network designs, solutions, and policies for knowledge sharing and future reference.
- Participate in executive-level discussions about network strategies and investments.
