About The Position

The NFX Bio Fellows program is seeking exceptional PhD, MD, MS, or MBA (focus on biotech/healthcare) students from top universities to serve as thought partners on campus. This program offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in early-stage investing, sourcing, evaluating, and supporting companies. Fellows will develop a keen sense for evaluating promising startups, build relationships within their school's entrepreneurship communities, and gain insight into current innovation trends. They will connect inspiring founders with the NFX team, assist in evaluating companies, and potentially host on-campus events. The fellowship includes an in-person retreat in San Francisco and exposure to the day-to-day operations of a seed-stage investor. The program is currently open to students at Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, and the Buck Institute, with plans to expand to other universities in the future.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, MS, or MBA (focus on biotech/healthcare) student.
  • Strong interest in startups and innovation.
  • Experience as a founder, working at a fast-growing startup, or evaluating startups as an investment.
  • Demonstrated hustle, speed, decisiveness, empathy, dexterity, patience, and endurance.
  • Strong character: charismatic, passionate, perceptive, humble, driven, humorous, and confident.
  • Ability to work closely with the NFX team and be inspired by them.
  • Willingness to commit approximately 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and support companies.
  • Develop a sense for evaluating promising startups.
  • Build relationships with student founders and entrepreneurship communities.
  • Develop insight into current white-hot areas of innovation.
  • Connect inspiring founders with the NFX team and help evaluate their companies and products.
  • Host on-campus events for student entrepreneurship communities (e.g., pitch competitions, hackathons, network effects workshops).
  • Provide regular updates and status check-ins to the NFX team.
