About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program at WLBT is seeking a Newsroom Intern for Fall '26. This 10-week immersive experience offers a hands-on opportunity to learn the local journalism industry. Interns will be involved in telling stories that matter across TV, streaming, and social media, working in the heart of Jackson, MS. This program is designed for individuals who are curious, scrappy, and eager to understand the news-making process from the inside out. It's a high-octane program where interns are expected to own their roles and contribute significantly from day one, rather than just shadowing.

Requirements

• Current enrollment as a college student (Junior or Senior status preferred).
• Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
• A 'doer' mindset with initiative and a willingness to work.
• Digital savvy, understanding that media exists across multiple platforms.
• Strong work ethic, bringing urgency, organization, and a 'can-do' attitude.
• Effective communication skills for storytelling, pitching ideas, and explaining concepts.
• Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and 25-hour weekly schedule.
• Passion for local communities and understanding the impact of local media.
• Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
• Desire to get hands-on experience in the local media industry.

Responsibilities

• Own the role: Step into the shoes of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments that may go on air and online.
• Drive digital engagement: Create content for social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
• Collaborate with seasoned professionals to gain insights.
• Dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to mastering a specialty and building a professional-grade portfolio.
• Make an impact by telling stories that matter to the community or helping local businesses grow.
