About The Position
WBTW News13, a Nexstar Media Group station, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic News Intern to join our award-winning newsroom. This internship provides students with hands-on experience in a professional broadcast television environment while allowing them to apply classroom knowledge to real-world newsroom operations. Interns will work alongside experienced journalists and media professionals, gaining valuable exposure to news gathering, story development, content production, and newsroom workflows. This is a supervised educational experience designed to support academic and professional growth.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and currently pursuing a degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field.
- Must be a senior in the final year of concentrated post-high school study.
- Demonstrated interest in broadcast journalism and local news.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced skill level appropriate for the complexity of assigned projects.
- Eagerness to learn and receive constructive feedback.
- Must be eligible to receive academic credit if required by the educational institution.
Responsibilities
- Observe and participate in daily newsroom activities and editorial meetings.
- Assist with story research, fact gathering, and content preparation.
- Shadow reporters, producers, photographers, and newsroom staff.
- Help monitor news sources, social media platforms, and community events.
- Assist with digital content and newsroom projects as assigned.
- Learn best practices in broadcast journalism, ethical reporting, and newsroom operations.
- Participate in a structured learning experience aligned with college program requirements.
- Perform assigned tasks in a professional and timely manner while adhering to company policies and standards.
